A World in one country
Diversity is probably the single word that best illustrates South Africa and her people. The southern tip of Africa is kaleidoscopic - variety, contrast, and sometimes conflict is evident in the exciting mix of race, language, creed, colour and culture.
South Africa is a big country, five times the size of Britain, and about as large as Holland, Belgium, Italy, France and West Germany put together.
It stretches from the Limpopo in the north to blustery Cape Agulhas, nearly 2 000 km to the south; from Namaqualand, along the barren western seaboard, east 1 500 km to subtropical Natal and the humid Indian Ocean coast - a total land area of 1 220 430 km².
The diversity is also evident in the nature of the land with its geological formations and regional climate, mountains, plains, coastlines, rich farmland, bushveld scrub and desert, each supporting its own plant and animal life.
